Amazon CloudFront is a web service that speeds up distribution of client’s static and dynamic web content to end users. This includes files such as .html, .css, .js, and image files. CloudFront delivers client content through edge locations. Edge locations are worldwide network of data centers. Regional edge caches are located between the client’s origin web server and the global edge locations, which serve content directly to your viewers. These locations contain cached copies of the websites. This helps improve performance for your viewers by serving a cached copy from a close by location and it reduces operational burden on resources of the web server.

A CloudFront Regional Edge Cache contains cached copy of websites whose web servers reside in a distant location.
