This post shows how to create a new team in Microsoft Teams.

To create a new team in Microsoft Teams, go to Teams > Join or create teams > Create a team. For detailed instructions, continue reading.

Anyone with sufficient permissions can create a team in Microsoft Teams. A team can be private, public or organization wide. Only people you invite can join a private team. Anyone can join a public team. An organization wide team would automatically include everyone in the organization. Most likely your organization did not grant you access to this feature. If you are able to create an organization wide team, think about the purpose of the team and how it will be received by your colleagues before you create it.

Following are the detailed steps to creating a new team:

  1. Go to Dashboard
  1. Click on Teams icon
  1. Click on Join or create a team button
  1. On the Create a team tile, click on Create team button
  1. Fill in the title, description, and privacy settings
  1. Add members to the team or Skip if you don’t know who will be in the group

That’s it. Your team is created.
